Netflix original K-drama ‘Melomovie’

Melomovie, a Netflix original drama set in the film industry, is set to premiere on 14 February 2025.

Starring Choi Woo-sik and Park Bo-young, the film is expected to have a deeper narrative that goes beyond simple ramance.

How the film works

‘Melomovie’ is a coming-of- age drama set in the film industry.

The 10-episode film, which is rated for ages 15 and up, was filmed over a period of about six months from Frbruary to August 2024.

The production team is particularly noteworthy : director Oh Chung-hwan, who directed Startup and Hotel Del Luna, is behind the megaphone, and writer Lee In-eun of That Year We wrote the script. This combination alone is enough to make us excited to see how the film will turn out.

Story and Character relationships

At its core, the film is a story of young people growing up through the medium of film.

The encounter between a former actor turned film critic and an aspiring filmmaker is at the centre of the film.

The film also tells the story of an unknown composer and screenwriter, whose relationship is interwined with their respective artistic worlds to create a deep narrative.

The unique backdrop of the film industry is expected to add depth beyond a simple romance.

What makes the production unique

‘Melomovie’ has several special production elements.

These include a realistic setting in the film industry, a narrative structure that captures the artistic growth of each character, and director Oh Chung-hwan’s distinctive cinematography.

It’s worth nothing that this is a purely original drama : based on an original script by Ina Eun, the film will delicately portray the struggles and growth of modern youth.

What to expect

Since ‘Melomovie’ will be released just in time for Valentine’s Day, it’s expected that the romance element will be emphasised.

However, it is expected to be more than just a romantic film, but a film that captures the realistic concerns and growth of youth.

The actual filming took place in various locations, including  Incheon, Ganghwa Island, Jongnom and Yongsan, and musical elements such as the OST will also be an important part of the film.
